Nikolai Huber is a director of photography based in Germany. His cinematographic work focuses on features and documentary films.
He studied cinematography at the University of Television and Film Munich (HFF) and has since worked on numerous productions across Europe. Early in his career, he gained valuable experience on international sets, contributing as VFX supervisor, B-camera operator, and DIT on projects including James Franco's Future World, Abel Ferrara's Tommaso (Official Selection Cannes), and Werner Herzog's Fireball (Apple TV+).
His cinematography has received several awards and nominations:
– For Find Fix Finish, he received a Special Mention by the Jury for Best Cinematography at the Camerimage International Film Festival 2017.
– His work on The Raft (BR/Arte) premiered at TIFF and was nominated for the German Camera Award 2020.
– In 2022, he received the German Camera Award for the short fiction film Coins.
Recent projects include the feature-length documentary Boyz, which premiered at the Munich Film Festival and was awarded at IDFA, as well as the documentary feature film No More Trouble – Cosa rimane di una tempesta, coproduced by the acclaimed Italian production company Indigo Film and released theatrically across Italy.
His cinematography is character-driven and attuned to the emotional architecture of a film, working closely with directors to find the visual tone that feels honest to the story.
