But I Never Asked
A young pianist at the Munich Conservatory is preparing for the most important audition of her life: Chopin’s Ballade No. 1—the same piece that played over Polish radio in 1939 as bombs fell on Warsaw. While she strives for technical perfection, fragments of a buried family history begin to surface—memories she never lived through but which seem to live through her. The lines between history and identity, dream and reality, begin to blur.\n\nTo truly perform the piece, she must confront the legacy of war that runs through her lineage. Only by facing the invisible weight of inherited trauma can she connect with the soul of the music—and with herself.
